[BREAKING] Supreme Court Declines to Interfere in Counting Process of Panchayat Election

A Division Bench of Hon’ble Justice A.M. Khanwlikar and Hon’ble Justice Hrishikesh Roy has declined to interfere in the Counting Process of Panchayat Election.

The Court has allowed the State Election Commission to conduct counting as per the protocol submitted before the Court

Aishwarya Bhati appearing for the State Election Commission informed the Court that strict adherence to COVID Protocol shall be followed and No Winning procession shall be allowed.

She added that Curfew can also be extended,if required and no other person other than counting officials shall be permitted to enter the counting area.

A CCTV recording shall be done which shall be duly preserved , untill such time the Allahabad High Court directed in PIL 574 of 2020, which is listed on 3rd May.

On the query of the Court Ms Bhati also informed the Court that A Class 1 Gazetted Officer will be responsible for ensuring COVID guidelines at each counting Centre and shall be responsible for any lapses.

The Court has also provided that no one shall enter into the counting centre without having the RTPCR test done.

The Bench stressed upon the fact that the officers deputed for this process shall be personally responsible for any lapses.

During the course of hearing the court also took note of the fact that many teachers have died during this process of election.
