The Bihar government has announced a substantial enhancement in the allowances and benefits for officers of the Bihar Judicial Service. This revision includes a notable provision of three salary increments for judges who acquire a Master of Laws (LLM) degree while in service. Furthermore, those who achieve a PhD will receive an additional salary increment.
The announcement also details various other benefits, including a child education allowance of INR 2,250 per month up to the 12th grade and a hostel subsidy of INR 6,750, applicable for a maximum of two children. The allowances are set to increase by 25% when the dearness allowance reaches 50%.
Judges taking on additional responsibilities will receive extra remuneration, with principal and district session judges getting INR 7,000 per month, subordinate judges INR 3,500, and chief judicial magistrates INR 2,000.

This revision follows the recommendations of the Second National Judicial Pay Commission and aims at improving the welfare of the judiciary. The financial benefits include allowances for housing, transportation, medical expenses, and communication, among others.
The judiciary can also avail cash in lieu of unused earned leave, with a provision for encashing up to 300 days of leave at retirement. Moreover, judges will receive financial support for housing rent, furniture, air conditioning, attire, and medical expenses.
