What could be a tremendous and welcome move, US President-elect Joe Biden nominates name well-known civil rights activist Vanita Gupta as associate attorney general as per several media reports.
Vanita Gupta, an Indian american will be the first woman to hold this post.
The reports also indicate that Biden has named Merrick Garland as attorney general.
Vanita Gupta had earlier served as the principal deputy assistant attorney general and head of the Civil Rights Division of Justice Department during Obama’s rule.
Ms Gupta has been a go-getter since the beginning of her career, and when she was freshly minted lawyer, she won the release of 38 people who were wrongly convicted on drug charges. She also got the victims compensation of six million dollars.

Vanita Gupta has also worked as a lawyer for a top human rights organisation, where she served many people from underprivileged backgrounds.
One of her landmark victories was when she got a settlement for children held in immigration prisons.
Currently, Vanita Gupta is the CEO and president of Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, a group of more than two hundred human rights organisations.
Now, the Senate has to confirm the appointment of Ms Gupta which would be relatively easy as the Democrats control the Senate.
