Bareilly Violence Case: Allahabad High Court Posts Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan’s Bail Plea for Hearing on March 12

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday briefly heard the bail application of Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan, who is currently in jail in connection with last year’s violence in Bareilly, and scheduled the matter for further hearing on March 12.

The matter came up before Justice Ashutosh Srivastava, who heard arguments for some time on behalf of the applicant before adjourning the case for the next hearing.

Raza has been in custody in connection with the violence that allegedly erupted in Bareilly on September 26, 2025. According to the police, the incident followed a call allegedly made by Raza asking members of the Muslim community to gather at Islamiya Inter College in the city.

Authorities claim the gathering took place despite prohibitory orders imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Police said around 200 to 250 people assembled and then moved from Maulana Azad Inter College towards Shyamganj Chauraha.

According to the police version, the crowd carried placards and raised provocative slogans while ignoring repeated warnings issued by law enforcement officials. The situation allegedly escalated when members of the mob turned aggressive.

The FIR states that some individuals in the crowd hurled brickbats, stones, and acid bottles at police personnel and also fired gunshots. Two police officers were reported injured in the incident.

Police further claimed that the violence created panic in the area and that officers eventually opened fire in self-defence after attempts to disperse the gathering failed.
