The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to entertain an advocate’s request to intervene in ongoing New Delhi demonstrations concerning alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the NEET competitive examinations.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, alongside Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana, refused to hear the matter and instructed the lawyer not to waste the court’s time. Chief Justice Kant also turned down an offer by the counsel to view video footage of the demonstrations, stating that the bench had no interest or time to review the media.
Student Demands And Police Action
During the session, the lawyer informed the bench that demonstrations were underway at Jantar Mantar and alleged that police were taking aggressive action against participants, including the deployment of tear gas.
The advocate submitted three core demands raised by protesting students: that the government directly conduct free and fair NEET examinations, and that the National Testing Agency be dissolved.
Escalation Near Parliament
The court exchange comes amid intensifying demonstrations in the capital over competitive exam irregularities. The agitation, led by the Cockroach Janta Party with support from students, activists, and Opposition figures, escalated on Monday after law enforcement intercepted a march proceeding toward Parliament.
The confrontation resulted in clashes, with Delhi Police using batons and tear gas to control the crowd. Authorities have since detained multiple protesters and registered several First Information Reports in connection with the violence.
