The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court was informed on Tuesday that the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) will not proceed with any construction work on land belonging to La Martiniere College in connection with the proposed road and flyover under the Green Corridor Project. The court has scheduled the next hearing for March 13 while directing the Lucknow District Magistrate to appear again before it.
A bench comprising Justice Alok Mathur and Justice Amitabh Kumar Rai was hearing a petition filed by La Martiniere College challenging the proposed construction on land it claims to own. During the proceedings, the court was told that the LDA would refrain from carrying out any construction activities on the disputed land.
The bench was also informed that the trustees of La Martiniere Charities were scheduled to meet on Wednesday to discuss the matter further.
In compliance with the court’s earlier directions, Lucknow District Magistrate Vishak G personally appeared before the bench during Tuesday’s hearing. The court asked him to remain present again on the next date of hearing.
The dispute centers on land located at Kothi Martin Sahib in the Ganeshganj Station area of Lucknow. According to the college’s petition, the government has proposed to build a road and flyover over this land as part of the Green Corridor Project.
The institution has alleged that authorities were planning construction on property owned by the college without obtaining its consent and without initiating any formal land acquisition proceedings through the LDA, district administration, or the state government.
Earlier, on February 27, the high court had directed officials to carry out a measurement of the disputed land. However, during a hearing earlier this week, the bench noted that the measurement had not been conducted. It then asked the district magistrate to appear before the court and explain the delay.
The petition further claims that attempts were being made to use the institution’s land without following the legal procedure prescribed for land acquisition.
La Martiniere College in Lucknow, established in 1845 under the will of French adventurer and philanthropist Claude Martin, is one of India’s oldest and most reputed educational institutions. The school is administered by the Lucknow Martiniere Charities and is known for its long-standing academic legacy and distinguished alumni.
