Allahabad High Court Makes 1 Lakh Judgments Available in Hindi, Chief Justice Arun Bhansali Uploads Milestone Verdict

The Allahabad High Court has completed the Hindi translation of one lakh judgments, making them available free of cost on its official website. Marking the achievement on October 5, 2026, Chief Justice Arun Bhansali personally uploaded the 1,00,000th translated judgment during a programme organised to recognise the work of the Court’s SUVAS Cell.

The High Court also released a commemorative publication titled The Vernacular Voice of Justice, documenting the translation initiative’s progress from its first judgment in August 2023 to the one-lakh milestone.

The publication was brought out by the AI-Assisted Legal Translation Advisory, e-AHCR and ILR Committee under the patronage of Chief Justice Bhansali.

Judges Attend Milestone Event

The event was attended by Justice Arindam Sinha, Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Siddharth Varma, members of the High Court’s Administrative Committee.

Translation Initiative Began in August 2023

The SUVAS Cell at the Allahabad High Court was established on August 16, 2023, following an initiative undertaken during the tenure of former Chief Justice of India Justice D.Y. Chandrachud.

On January 23, 2023, Justice Chandrachud had written to the Chief Justices of all High Courts, requesting the formation of AI-Assisted Legal Translation Advisory Committees to oversee technology-based translation of judicial decisions.

The initiative was intended to make Supreme Court and High Court judgments accessible in regional languages, particularly for citizens and young advocates.

The Allahabad High Court uploaded its first Hindi-translated judgment on August 23, 2023.

The translation project subsequently reached 50,000 judgments on December 12, 2025, when Chief Justice Bhansali uploaded the milestone judgment.

The scope of the translation programme expanded from March 17, 2026, to include all final non-AFR judgments and orders extending to three pages or more.

The SUVAS Cells at Allahabad and Lucknow currently translate all AFR judgments of the High Court, qualifying final non-AFR judgments and orders, and specified Supreme Court judgments.
