Allahabad HC Dismisses PIL Seeking Inclusion of ‘‘Bhagavad Gita’’ as Subject in Schools

On Wednesday, a PIL came before the Allahabad High Court, where the Petitioner had prayed for a direction to the Government that ‘‘Bhagavad Geeta’’ should be taught as one of the subjects to the students of all classes i.e. Basic Education to Higher Education in the overall interest of the society.

The PIL was heard by the Bench of Hon’ble Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Hon’ble Justice Siddharth Varma.

The Bench observed that in case, the petitioner wants to include “Bhagavad Geeta” as one

of the subjects in the syllabus of intermediate, he may approach the appropriate authority such as  Board of  High School and Intermediate Education, Uttar Pradesh or any other Board or University concerned, which he considers proper for including it as a subject or as a part of the syllabus of one of the subjects.

But considering the fact that the PIL as filed is completely vague and misconceived the Allahabad HC dismissed the PIL.
