Allahabad HC Directs Umar Ansari to Move Bail Plea Before Regular Court

The Allahabad High Court on Monday directed that the bail application filed by Umar Ansari, son of late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, be placed before a regular court dealing with bail applications instead of a court handling MP-MLA cases.

The order was passed by Justice Samir Jain while hearing Umar Ansari’s plea seeking release on bail in a criminal case registered against him.

According to the prosecution, Umar Ansari allegedly used forged documents and fabricated signatures of his mother, Afsa Ansari, to secure the release of a property that had been seized under the Gangster Act. A case in this regard was registered at Mohammadabad police station in Ghazipur district.

Police alleged that Umar prepared fake documents to reclaim the confiscated property through court proceedings. He was recently arrested from Lucknow in connection with the case and subsequently sent to jail.

Umar Ansari’s bail application had earlier been rejected by the trial court. Following this, he approached the high court, urging that he be granted bail during the pendency of the trial.

Justice Jain, however, directed that the matter be heard by a regular court designated for bail hearings, not by the MP-MLA court where he had initially moved his plea.

The case now awaits further proceedings before the appropriate court.
