Mau, Uttar Pradesh — Abbas Ansari, MLA from Mau Sadar constituency and son of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, has been convicted in a hate speech case by the MP-MLA Court in Mau. The verdict was delivered by Judge Dr. Krishan Kumar Singh. The quantum of punishment is expected to be announced shortly.
The case pertains to a controversial speech delivered by Abbas Ansari during the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election campaign. While addressing a public rally, Ansari had publicly threatened administrative officials, declaring from the stage that once his party formed the government, officers would be held accountable and “settled with.”
Following the speech, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the Mau City Kotwali police station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Gangaram Bind. Abbas Ansari, his brother Umar Ansari, and others were named in the case. The charges included criminal intimidation of government officials during the election period. In addition, a separate case for violation of the Model Code of Conduct was registered at Dakshin Tola Police Station.
With the conviction announced, security around the court premises has been significantly heightened. Police forces have turned the area into a virtual fortress to maintain law and order in anticipation of the sentencing. Kotwali in-charge Anil Singh, along with his team, has been stationed at the main gate of the court complex, conducting thorough checks of all vehicles entering and exiting the premises.
Authorities have stated that all necessary arrangements are in place to prevent any disruption. The situation remains tense, with law enforcement closely monitoring developments.
