Jharkhand High Court Blood Donation Camp Collects 205 Units, Focuses on Thalassemia Patients

Ranchi, October 7: A blood donation camp organised by the Jharkhand High Court Legal Services Committee on Wednesday collected 205 units of blood, with particular emphasis on meeting the needs of patients suffering from thalassemia.

Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Mahesh Sharadchandra Sonak inaugurated the camp and urged people to participate in voluntary blood donation, stressing that a single donation can help save lives in medical emergencies and support patients who require regular transfusions.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Justice Sonak said blood donors demonstrate courage and compassion by helping people they may not even know. He noted that blood donated within a few minutes could prove crucial for a mother and child, a thalassemia patient or an accident victim.

He also appreciated the individuals and organisations associated with the initiative and encouraged continued participation in voluntary blood donation programmes.

205 Units Collected During Camp

According to the High Court, 205 units of blood were collected during this year’s camp, taking into account the increasing requirement of thalassemia patients.

The blood donation initiative has been held at the High Court premises once or twice every year since 2015.

Advocates, High Court officers and employees, police personnel, women advocates and employees, along with other volunteers, participated in the camp. Donors were given certificates acknowledging their contribution.

Justice Ananda Sen Stresses Regular Blood Donation

Justice Ananda Sen, while delivering the vote of thanks, underlined the importance of regular blood donation for people suffering from thalassemia.

He said the initiative contributes blood units every year to Sadar Hospital, Ranchi, and the Blood Bank, Ranchi, helping maintain the availability of blood for patients who depend on transfusions.

Justice Sen thanked the Jharkhand Police, advocates, High Court officers and employees, doctors of Sadar Hospital, voluntary blood donor organisations, the Jharkhand Thalassemia Foundation and other volunteers associated with the programme.

Several Organisations Join Initiative

The camp was jointly organised by Sadar Hospital, Ranchi; the High Court Legal Services Committee; Advocates’ Association, Jharkhand High Court; Ranchi Police; High Court Co-operative Society; Jharkhand Thalassemia Foundation; and Voluntary Blood Donors Association.

Those present included Ram Sharma; Ajit Kumar, President of the Advocates’ Association, Jharkhand High Court; Naveen Kumar, General Secretary of the Advocates’ Association; Manoj Kaushik, Additional DIG (CID), Jharkhand; Rakesh Ranjan, Senior Superintendent of Police, Ranchi; and officials and representatives of the participating organisations.

High Court officers and employees, heads of departments, members of the publication department, specialised departments and other advocates also took part in the programme.

The organisers said the initiative brought together members of the legal, police, medical and voluntary sectors to support patients who depend on regular blood transfusions.
