The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation challenging the bail granted to former National Stock Exchange managing director and chief executive officer Chitra Ramkrishna in an employee phone-tapping case.
Justice Madhu Jain turned down the central agency’s challenge against an earlier trial court ruling delivered on December 22, 2022, which had granted relief to Ramkrishna. The bench’s detailed judgment has not yet been released.
Allegations of Unlawful Interception
The case stems from a First Information Report registered by the CBI, which alleged that senior bourse executives, including Ramkrishna, entered into a criminal conspiracy with a private firm named iSec Private Limited. According to investigators, the firm was contracted to intercept telephone calls belonging to exchange employees unlawfully, allegedly cheating both the National Stock Exchange and its workforce.
Leadership Tenure at Stock Exchange
Ramkrishna previously spent years at the helm of the exchange in key leadership capacities. She assumed the role of joint managing director in 2009, a post she held through March 31, 2013. Effective April 1, 2013, she took over as managing director and chief executive officer, steering the institution until her resignation and conclusion of service in December 2016.
