The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday stayed criminal proceedings against Samajwadi Party parliamentarian Iqra Hasan in a matter concerning an alleged breach of the Model Code of Conduct during the 2024 parliamentary elections.
Justice Vikram D Chauhan issued the interim stay order while hearing a petition moved by the Kairana lawmaker. The bench simultaneously directed the state counsel to submit a counter-affidavit, granting time to place the government’s response on record.
In her plea challenging the prosecution, Hasan contended that the criminal case brought against her was rooted in political rivalry.
The dispute traces back to an First Information Report registered at the Kandhla police station in Shamli district during the 2024 general elections, accusing the parliamentarian of flouting election conduct rules. After concluding the inquiry, the investigating officer submitted a formal charge sheet, on the basis of which a dedicated MP-MLA court in Shamli initiated criminal proceedings against her.
