The Delhi High Court, Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport and several government offices in the national capital received bomb threat emails on Friday, a day before Independence Day. Police later declared the threats hoaxes after searches and security checks at the locations.
The emails triggered deployment of Delhi Police, bomb disposal squads and fire brigade teams at the affected premises. Searches were carried out before authorities concluded that no threat had been found.
Among the government premises targeted were the Delhi Cantonment SDM Office, Jamnagar House, Saket SDM Office and a location in Jhandewalan.
Threat Emails Received Within Minutes
According to a police source, the Delhi Cantonment SDM Office received an email at 11.18 am. A similar threat was received at Terminal 3 of the IGI Airport at 11.32 am.
Jamnagar House received a threat at 11.40 am, followed by the Saket SDM Office at 11.42 am and Jhandewalan at 11.57 am. The threats were also reported to the Fire Control Room.
Police, bomb squad and fire brigade personnel were subsequently sent to the locations for checks.
At the Delhi High Court, Joint Secretary Advocate Kunal said the threat appeared to be fake and that the situation was under control. He said bomb squad personnel and sniffer dogs were scanning the premises and no threat had been detected at that stage.
Security Stepped Up Ahead of August 15
The threats came amid heightened security arrangements across Delhi ahead of Independence Day.
Police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations, while additional checks are being carried out at entry and exit routes in the national capital.
Security teams are also maintaining increased surveillance at public places and other areas expected to witness greater movement ahead of August 15.
