The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted temporary parole to Ali and Umar Ahmad, the jailed sons of former politician Atiq Ahmad, allowing them to attend the funeral services of their 21-year-old brother, Aban Ahmad.
A division bench comprising Justice Ajay Bhanot and Justice Divesh Chandra Samant delivered the decision on a petition filed by Parveen Qureshi, Atiq Ahmad’s sister. The court issued the parole order after being informed that the burial is scheduled for Saturday morning.
Details of the Jhansi Collision
Aban Ahmad and his 25-year-old friend, Sonu, died on Thursday when their SUV collided with a road divider in the Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh. Police reported that the group was travelling to Jhansi jail to visit Ali Ahmad when the crash occurred.
Three other individuals in the vehicle—identified as Azam, Mohammad Javed, and Umar— sustained injuries in the incident. They were initially admitted to Jhansi Medical College before being transferred to Prayagraj by their family members.
Funeral Preparations and Detention Status
Aban Ahmad’s body was transported to Prayagraj on Friday morning ahead of the Saturday burial at the Kasari-Masari graveyard. A site for his grave has been prepared adjacent to that of his father, Atiq Ahmad. The graveyard also houses the remains of Atiq’s brother, Ashraf, and another son, Asad.
Following the court ruling, arrangements permit the two brothers to travel from their respective facilities. Ali Ahmad is presently detained at Jhansi jail, while Umar Ahmad is held at Lucknow jail.
Family Background
Aban was the youngest of Atiq Ahmad’s five sons. His death follows earlier fatalities involving members of his immediate family in 2023.
In April 2023, police shot and killed Asad Ahmad during an encounter near Jhansi. Asad was wanted in connection with the killing of Umesh Pal, a primary witness in the 2005 murder of BSP MLA Raju Pal. On April 15, 2023, Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were fatally shot by three individuals posing as journalists while under police escort for a medical checkup in Prayagraj.
