Delhi High Court Declines Urgent Hearing on Security Plea Over Scheduled Protest Against Education Minister

The Delhi High Court on Friday declined to grant an urgent hearing to a petition raising security concerns over a scheduled demonstration calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

A vacation bench comprising Justices Saurabh Banerjee and Amit Sharma refused to list the plea for an immediate hearing. The petition sought intervention ahead of a protest planned for June 6 at Jantar Mantar.

Demonstration Over Exam Lapses

The planned demonstration was organized by Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, a youth-focused social media movement that has attracted a large following, including several public figures. Earlier this month, Dipke called on students and supporters to gather in the capital and assemble at the airport on June 6 to protest against recent examination-related lapses and demand the resignation of the education minister.

In response to the protest call, the ‘Save India Foundation’ filed a petition seeking the deployment of immediate crowd-control, regulatory, and preventive measures at metro stations, highway entry points, and Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The petitioner urged authorities to relocate or regulate the gathering to ensure the continuous operation of essential emergency services, hospitals, railway stations, and major judicial bodies, including the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Allegations of Transnational Coordination

The public interest litigation alleged that the Cockroach Janta Party had mobilized youth into an unregulated contingent through the use of servers based overseas. According to the petitioner, the group is executing an agenda to destabilize domestic institutions.

The plea requested that the mobilization either be moved to an alternative designated site or be strictly monitored with comprehensive video recording. This measure, the petition argued, would help prevent individuals instigating the movement from foreign jurisdictions, such as the United States and Australia, from compromising airport security and critical emergency operations.
