The Delhi High Court on Friday observed a two-minute silence at 11 a.m. in remembrance of those who laid down their lives during India’s freedom struggle.
The solemn observance took place in the courtroom of Chief Justice D.K. Upadhyaya. The court master, addressing all present, said, “Everyone is requested to please stand up and observe two minutes’ silence in the memory of those who sacrificed their lives during the struggle for India’s freedom.”
All proceedings were paused as judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants stood in silence. The tribute concluded when the court master signalled its end.
The ceremony was held to mark Shaheed Diwas (Martyrs’ Day), observed annually on January 30 to commemorate the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who was assassinated on this day in 1948. Across the country, institutions and government offices pay tribute to freedom fighters on this occasion.
