Bombay High Court Announces Recruitment for Over 1,300 Clerk Posts: Check Eligibility, Syllabus, and Selection Process

The High Court of Judicature at Bombay has issued an official advertisement inviting online applications from eligible candidates for the post of Clerk. The recruitment drive aims to prepare a Select List and Wait List for the Principal Seat at Bombay and its Benches at Nagpur and Aurangabad.

The notification, dated December 8, 2025, outlines a total of 1,332 vacant posts (comprising present vacancies and those expected to arise in the next two years) across the three establishments.

Vacancy Details and Pay Scale

The recruitment is being conducted for the post of Clerk in the Pay Matrix S-10, with a salary range of Rs. 29,200 – Rs. 92,300/- plus admissible allowances.

  1. High Court, Principal Seat at Bombay:
    • Total Vacant Posts: 830
    • Select List: 797 posts
    • Wait List: 200 posts
  2. High Court Bench at Nagpur:
    • Total Vacant Posts: 166

  3. High Court Bench at Aurangabad:

Note: Candidates are required to select only one establishment (Bombay, Nagpur, or Aurangabad) while submitting the online application. Requests for a change of establishment will not be entertained.

Eligibility Criteria

1. Age Limit (as on the date of advertisement):

  • General (Open): Minimum 18 years, Maximum 38 years.
  • Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, OBC, SBC: Minimum 18 years, Maximum 43 years.
  • High Court/Government Employees: Maximum age limit not applicable.

2. Educational Qualification:

  • Must possess a University Degree from a recognized University. Preference will be given to candidates holding a Degree in Law.
  • Typing Qualification: Must have passed the English Typing Examination with a speed of 40 w.p.m. or above. Acceptable certificates include:
    • Government Commercial Certificate Examination (GCC) by the Maharashtra State Bureau of Examination.
    • Government Certificate in Computer Typing Basic Course (GCC-TBC) by MSCE.
    • ITI Certificate.

3. Computer Proficiency: Candidates must possess a certificate regarding qualification of Computer knowledge (as specified in G.R. dated 04/02/2013) OR a certificate proficient in Computer Operation (Word Processor in Windows/Linux, M.S. Office, etc.) from recognized institutes like NIC, DOEACC, APTECH, NIIT, C-DAC, MKCL (MS-CIT), etc.

  • Exemption: Candidates who have passed GCC-TBC (English 40 w.p.m.) are exempted from producing a separate computer proficiency certificate.

4. Language: The candidate should be able to speak, read, and write Marathi language.

Selection Process

The selection methodology involves three stages:

Stage 1: Screening Test (90 Marks)

  • Format: Objective type multiple-choice questions.
  • Duration: One hour.
  • Minimum Passing Marks: 45.
  • Syllabus:
    • Marathi: 10 Marks
    • English: 20 Marks
    • General Knowledge: 10 Marks
    • General Intelligence: 20 Marks
    • Arithmetic: 20 Marks
    • Computer: 10 Marks
  • Note: Failure in the Screening Test disqualifies the candidate from the Typing Test.

Stage 2: English Typing Test (20 Marks)

  • Duration: 10 minutes.
  • Content: Typing passage of 400 words on a Computer.
  • Minimum Passing Marks: 10.

Stage 3: Viva-voce (40 Marks)

  • Only eligible candidates who clear the previous stages will be called for the interview.

Application Fee

Candidates are required to pay a non-refundable examination fee of Rs. 1,000/- through the ‘SBI Collect’ online payment gateway.

Other Key Conditions

  • Probation: Appointed candidates will serve a probation period of 2 years. Services may be terminated without notice if the probation is not completed satisfactorily.
  • Transfer Policy: Selected candidates will not be eligible for transfer to any other place before completing 5 years of service from the date of appointment.
  • Disqualification: Candidates with more than two living children born after 28/03/2005 are ineligible.
