Delhi High Court Declares December 26 as Holiday; Winter Vacation to Commence Early

The High Court of Delhi has issued a notification declaring Friday, December 26, 2025, as a holiday for the Court. Additionally, the Court has rescheduled the commencement of its Winter Vacation and announced a compensatory sitting day.

In a notification dated December 2, 2025, the Delhi High Court announced changes to its working calendar for December 2025. The Court has declared December 26, 2025, a holiday and advanced the start of its Winter Vacation. To compensate for the loss of a working day, the Court will hold a sitting on a Saturday earlier in the month.

Rescheduling of Winter Vacation

According to the notification issued by the General-Admn.-I Branch, it has been “resolved that the Winter Vacation for this Court shall commence from 26th December, 2025 instead of 29th December 2025.”

The notification clarifies that the days immediately following the new start date, specifically December 27 and December 28, fall on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Compensatory Court Sitting

To offset the holiday declared on Friday, December 26, the High Court has designated a compensatory working day. The notification states, “In lieu of holiday on Friday, the 26th December 2025, Saturday, the 20th December 2025 has been declared as a Court sitting day for this Court.”

Adjournment of Cases

The notification also addresses the schedule for cases originally listed for hearing on the declared holiday. It specifies that “The cases fixed for Friday, the 26th December 2025 in this Court shall be taken up on Monday, the 5th January 2026, in addition to the cases already fixed for the said date.”
