The High Court of Chhattisgarh solemnly and proudly celebrated Constitution Day (Samvidhan Diwas) on November 26, 2025, at Unity Hall of High Court with a special program themed “Constitution Day 2025: Reaffirming Our Democratic Ideals”. The event reflected the Judiciary’s unwavering commitment to constitutional values, justice, and democratic governance.
The programme commenced with National Anthem followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by Chief Guest, Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh. Hon’ble the Chief Justice delivered an inspiring address on the occasion of Constitution Day, emphasizing the enduring vision of the framers of the Constitution and the vital role of constitutional values in shaping the Indian democracy. In the address, Hon’ble the Chief Justice recalled with deep gratitude the farsightedness of the Constitution-makers, who crafted a document that not only defines the structure of the State but also guides the Nation through changing times, while safeguarding the dignity and rights of every individual.
Highlighting the Constitution as a “living framework,” Hon’ble the Chief Justice underscored that it guarantees Justice, Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity to all citizens. The true strength of democracy, it was stressed, lies in constitutionalism—the disciplined practice of limiting State power and ensuring accountability of all institutions within the boundaries of law. Hon’ble the Chief Justice further observed that constitutionalism in India is not a theoretical concept but a principle that touches the everyday lives of citizens. Referring to Article 21, it was noted that the right to life and personal liberty has been interpreted by the Courts as the right to live with dignity, encompassing basic necessities such as food, clean drinking water, shelter, education, healthcare, and a clean environment. Governance, therefore, must remain humane, responsive, and sensitive to the needs of the weakest sections of society.
Emphasizing the role of the Justice delivery system, Hon’ble the Chief Justice called upon all stakeholders to ensure that constitutional principles are not only interpreted but actively realized. Every Judicial decision and administrative action, it was stressed, must reaffirm fairness, equality, democracy, and human dignity.
In conclusion, the Hon’ble the Chief Justice urged everyone to reaffirm their commitment to the ideals enshrined in the Constitution and to uphold constitutional values in their work and conduct, so that the Constitution continues to remain the guiding force of the Republic.
