A Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane has directed the payment of ₹54.59 lakh as compensation to a 55-year-old man who suffered severe injuries in a 2018 road accident.
The claimant, Rajendra Digambar Jamdar, was riding pillion on a motorcycle on May 23, 2018, when the rider swerved to avoid a collision with an autorickshaw near Ovla Naka, causing him to fall and sustain serious injuries. At the time, Jamdar was working as a sales manager with an automobile dealership and earned a monthly salary of ₹41,000.
In an order issued on November 20, a copy of which became available on Sunday, MACT member Rupali Mohite held that Jamdar was entitled to compensation for the permanent impact of injuries on his earning capacity and overall quality of life.
The Tribunal calculated a total award of ₹54,59,930, which includes ₹29,49,492 towards loss of future income. The remaining amount covers medical expenses, pain and suffering, and other heads allowed under law.
The order notes that Jamdar’s injuries affected his ability to continue in his previous professional capacity, warranting long-term compensation based on his past income and prospects.
The MACT directed the respondents to release the amount to the claimant as per statutory norms.
