The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) at Thane has directed the payment of ₹52.65 lakh as compensation to the family of a 37-year-old man who lost his life in a road accident on the Nashik–Mumbai highway in 2022.
The victim, Mohammed Azam Karimullah, died on January 16, 2022, when the tempo he was driving was hit by a speeding car near Anjur-Dive village. The tribunal, led by Member R.V. Mohite, passed the order on Friday after examining crucial evidence, including the FIR, spot panchnama, and the post-mortem report.
The MACT held that the mishap occurred solely due to the negligence of the car driver, who failed to control the vehicle because of overspeeding. The tribunal emphasized that the chain of evidence clearly established rash and negligent driving on the part of the offending vehicle.

Karimullah’s family had initially sought ₹1 crore in compensation. However, after assessing his monthly income at ₹25,000, the tribunal awarded ₹52.65 lakh. The order seeks to balance the family’s loss of dependency with the evidence available on record.
The accident led to the registration of an FIR against the car driver, who was found responsible for the crash. Karimullah, the sole breadwinner for his family, left behind dependents who approached the tribunal for relief.
The award ensures financial support for the bereaved family, though it falls short of the amount initially claimed.
