The Central government on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of six additional judges of the Bombay High Court as permanent judges, acting on a recommendation by the Supreme Court Collegium dated August 25.
The judges elevated to permanent status are:
- Justice Sanjay Anandrao Deshmukh
- Justice Vrushali Vijay Joshi
- Justice Abhay Jainarayanji Mantri
- Justice Shyam Chhaganlal Chandak
- Justice Neeraj Pradeep Dhote
- Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan
Justices Deshmukh and Joshi were appointed as additional judges in October 2022 following a September 2022 Collegium recommendation. Justices Mantri, Chandak, and Dhote joined as additional judges in October 2023.

Justice Sundaresan’s appointment as an additional judge came in November 2023, nearly ten months after the Collegium reiterated its earlier recommendation for his elevation.
The move formalises their tenure on the bench, ensuring their continued role in adjudicating matters before one of India’s busiest High Courts.
