The Consortium of National Law Universities has officially announced the date for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026. According to a press release dated July 20, 2025, the examination will be conducted on Sunday, December 7, 2025. The application portal for the examination will be active from August 1, 2025, to October 31, 2025.
The decision was finalised by the Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the Consortium of National Law Universities during their meetings held on July 20, 2025. CLAT is a national-level entrance examination for admissions to undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) law programmes offered by 24 National Law Universities across India.
The press release, issued by the President of the Consortium of National Law Universities, provides key dates for the upcoming admission cycle.

The statement declared, “The Executive Committee and the Governing Body of the Consortium of National Law Universities (the ‘Consortium’) at their Meetings held on July 20th, 2025 decided that the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) 2026 shall be conducted on Sunday, December 7th, 2025, from 2 PM-4 PM.”
The Consortium has outlined the timeline for the application process. As per the release, “The portal for applying for the CLAT 2026 will become functional from the 1st of August 2025 and will remain so until 31st October 2025, the last date of application for CLAT 2026.”
Aspiring candidates have been advised that more specific information will be forthcoming. The release concludes by stating, “Further details regarding the syllabus, application and counselling process shall be released shortly.”
