In an unusual courtroom scene, a Delhi court directed four accused individuals to stand in the courtroom with their hands raised in the air for the entire day as punishment for contempt of court.
Judicial Magistrate Saurabh Goyal passed this order on July 15 while hearing a complaint case from 2018, which was at the stage of pre-charge evidence.
According to the court order, the accused were supposed to furnish their bail bonds but failed to do so despite the matter being called twice between 10 a.m. and 11:40 a.m. “For wasting the time of the court, which is in contempt of the order duly promulgated on the last date of hearing, the accused persons are hereby held guilty for contempt of court proceedings and are convicted for the offence under Section 228 (intentional insult or interruption to public servant sitting in judicial proceeding) of the IPC,” the magistrate stated in his order.

As a consequence, the court directed them to stand in the courtroom with their hands straight up in the air until the court rose for the day.
The case has now been posted for further proceedings on August 11.
