Govt Launches Rs 3,000 FASTag-Based Annual Pass for Private Vehicles, Effective August 15

In a major initiative aimed at streamlining toll payments and enhancing highway travel, the Government of India has announced the rollout of a FASTag-based Annual Pass for private vehicles, priced at Rs 3,000. The scheme will come into effect on August 15, 2025, and will apply across all National Highways in the country.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the development on Tuesday via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle. He said the initiative is intended to bring relief to frequent travellers by offering a predictable, cost-effective toll system and minimizing stoppages at toll plazas.

Key Features of the Annual Pass

  • Cost: Rs 3,000 (inclusive of all taxes)
  • Validity: One year from activation date or up to 200 highway trips, whichever comes earlier
  • Eligibility: Only for non-commercial private four-wheelers (cars, jeeps, vans)
  • Coverage: Applicable across all National Highways
  • No toll deduction until the pass either expires by time or usage

“This move is a transformative step towards hassle-free highway travel,” Gadkari posted. “The Annual Pass will enable seamless and cost-effective travel for private vehicle users across National Highways throughout the country.”

How to Activate

The Annual Pass can be activated through:

  • Rajmarg Yatra App
  • Official websites of NHAI and MoRTH

Users will need to submit:

  • Valid FASTag credentials
  • Vehicle registration number
  • Basic identity verification

A dedicated link for activation and renewal will be available on these platforms soon.

Addressing Toll-Related Complaints

The move is also aimed at addressing long-standing complaints related to toll plazas situated within 60 km of each other, which often cause confusion and lead to disputes. By introducing a one-time, fixed-fee payment system, the government seeks to reduce such frictions and make highway travel smoother and more efficient.

The Annual Pass is expected to particularly benefit daily commuters and frequent highway travellers, offering them significant savings and eliminating the need for repeated toll deductions through the year.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways stated that this is part of a broader strategy to digitize and rationalize toll collection systems in India. As FASTag adoption grows, such measures aim to make road infrastructure usage both fair and user-friendly.
