Agra Techie Suicide Case: Mother-in-Law, Sister-in-Law of Deceased File Bail Pleas in Allahabad High Court

The mother-in-law and sister-in-law of Manav Sharma, an IT professional who allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Agra, have moved the Allahabad High Court seeking bail. The two women, Poonam Sharma and her daughter, were arrested in March following the high court’s decision not to interfere with the FIR registered against Manav’s wife Nikita and her family.

The accused, currently lodged in jail, have filed their bail pleas through their counsel, even as the case continues to proceed in the local court. Last week, police submitted a chargesheet before the Agra court, documenting statements from 17 witnesses, including Manav’s parents and sister.

The FIR, registered at Sadar Bazar police station on February 28, 2025, was based on a complaint filed by Manav’s father, Narendra Sharma. It accuses Nikita Sharma, her father Nripendra Kumar Sharma, mother Poonam Sharma, and two sisters-in-law under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Manav, a manager at a Mumbai-based IT firm and resident of Defence Colony, Agra, allegedly ended his life on February 24, 2025. In a video message left behind, he reportedly blamed his wife and in-laws for his decision.
