Rajasthan High Court Bar Seeks Suspension of Court Work Amid Security Concerns

Citing a volatile law and order situation, ongoing blackout, and threats from separatist and disruptive elements, the Rajasthan High Court Lawyers’ Association has formally urged the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court to declare May 12 to May 16, 2025, as ‘No Work Days’.

In a letter dated May 10, 2025, the Bar Association conveyed unanimous concern over the “prevailing sensitive and volatile situation in the region,” highlighting the urgent need to ensure the safety of judicial officers, lawyers, litigants, and stakeholders. The letter has been signed by General Secretary Manish Tak and President Anand Purohit.

The Association noted that the appeal was made in the interest of public safety and judicial security. “In order to ensure the safety and security of all the Learned members of the Bar and litigants, Judicial officers and all the stakeholders,” the letter states, “the Bar has unanimously resolved to request the declaration of ‘No Work’ period for a duration of five (5) days.”

While acknowledging the gravity of the situation, the Association emphasized that the request was made as a precautionary measure to “avoid any untoward incidents” during what it described as a tense and uncertain law and order environment.

The plea urges the Chief Justice to consider extending the directive to both the Rajasthan High Court and its subordinate judiciary, along with appropriate directions in light of the prevailing risks.

The request is currently under consideration by the High Court administration.
