In a poignant address during an online meeting hosted by the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF), Attorney General R Venkataramani underscored the vital role of lawyers as custodians of peace, not just within national borders but globally. The meeting, convened to condemn the recent brutal terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, became a platform for advocating a unified approach to foster world peace.
“Lawyers are custodians of peace within and outside nations,” stated Venkataramani, proposing the formation of a global ‘Lawyers for Peace’ initiative. He highlighted the urgent need for such a movement, especially in times when terrorism seeks to undermine societal harmony and security. “As we all vow for a peaceful world, no person engaging in an act of terror can ever justify their actions based on faith or religion,” he emphasized, adding that “humanity must unconditionally declare that no such justification will ever be tolerated.”
The Attorney General passionately spoke about the loss and grief inflicted by the terrorist attack, mentioning the irreplaceable loss of young lives. He suggested that SILF could extend personal messages of sincere compassion to the bereaved families, a gesture he described as small yet profoundly meaningful.

In solidarity with the national and global outcry against terrorism, SILF members passed a resolution expressing full support for the measures announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring the perpetrators to justice. SILF president Lalit Bhasin remarked, “This atrocious act of terrorism has shocked the conscience of our nation and the world. Terrorism has no face or religion, and it must be condemned in the strongest terms.”
