Karnataka HC Halts Coercive Action Against IAF Officer in Road Rage Incident

In a significant legal relief, the Karnataka High Court has issued an interim order preventing Bengaluru city police from taking coercive action against Wing Commander Shiladitya Bose of the Indian Air Force, who is embroiled in a road rage controversy. The directive was handed down by Justice Hemant Chandangoudar on April 24, amid escalating legal proceedings stemming from the incident.

The confrontation that led to the legal skirmish occurred on April 21 near C V Raman Nagar, involving Bose and Vikas Kumar S J, a call centre employee. The dispute quickly escalated from a mere traffic altercation to a physical assault, prompting Bose to lodge an FIR against Kumar. However, the tables turned when Kumar filed a retaliatory complaint, resulting in a second FIR registered against Bose.

Amidst these cross-complaints, Wing Commander Bose approached the court, challenging the legitimacy of the FIR lodged against him. In response, the High Court’s order restrains the police from any form of coercive action that might prejudice the officer’s position before a thorough legal examination. This includes barring the police from summoning Bose without proper legal framework and halting any potential chargesheet until further judicial review.

While the court’s order provides temporary relief to Bose, it also stipulates that he must fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation, ensuring that the proceedings remain balanced and just.
