The father of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim has made a poignant appeal to the Calcutta High Court, seeking justice for his daughter and alleging that multiple individuals were involved in the crime. In a distressing revelation, he claimed that the process was marred by evidence tampering, directly implicating several men, including officials in positions of power.
The family, distressed by the handling of the case, submitted a list of 54 questions to the High Court, questioning the integrity of the investigation and the concealment of crucial evidence. “We have faith in the courts and believe they are working fairly, in line with our expectations,” the victim’s father stated, emphasizing their trust in the judicial process despite the alleged obstructions.
The case, which has incited nationwide fury, involves a 31-year-old medic who was brutally raped and murdered at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9 last year. The main accused, Sanjay Roy, was sentenced to a life term by a Sealdah sessions court on January 20. However, the victim’s parents believe that others were involved and have been pushing for a broader investigation.

Senior advocate Karuna Nundy initially represented the family in the Supreme Court, which later directed them to the jurisdictional high court. This court is also considering the CBI’s appeal for the death sentence for Roy.
Amidst these legal battles, the victim’s father expressed frustration over the administrative hurdles they face, including the inability to obtain his daughter’s death certificate more than seven months after the tragic event. He highlighted a lack of cooperation from officials at Swasthya Bhavan, the hospital, and the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, which has added to the family’s grief and struggle for closure.
