Allahabad High Court Extends Stay on Arrest of Alt News Co-Founder Mohammed Zubair

The Allahabad High Court has extended the stay on the arrest of Mohammed Zubair, co-founder of Alt News, until March 3, in connection with a First Information Report (FIR) accusing him of promoting enmity among religious groups. The FIR stems from a post Zubair made on X (formerly Twitter), which involved a video clip of Yati Narsinghanand’s speech, described by Zubair as ‘derogatory.’

Justice Siddhartha Varma and Justice YK Srivastava presided over the proceedings and issued the order in response to a petition filed by Zubair. The complaint, lodged by Udita Tyagi, general secretary of the Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati Trust, alleges that on October 3, 2024, Zubair uploaded edited clips of an old program featuring Narsinghanand. These clips reportedly contained inflammatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, which Tyagi claims were intended to provoke violent reactions against Narsinghanand from Muslim communities.
