Supreme Court Justice A.S. Oka highlighted the critical importance of trial practice to aspiring lawyers during his address at the 21st K K Luthra Memorial Moot Court Competition held at the Campus Law Centre of Delhi University. Justice Oka, serving as the chief guest, spoke to law students from across the globe, underscoring that trial practice should not be underestimated and forms a foundational aspect of their future legal careers.
The moot court competition, which focused on the legality of using artificial intelligence tools in policing, saw robust participation with Sastra (Deemed to be University), Thanjavur claiming the top spot, and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University as the first runner-up. The event commemorated the late senior advocate K.K. Luthra and drew participants from 127 institutions worldwide, with 72 teams making the final shortlist.
Justice Oka also took the opportunity to commend the rising number of women in litigation and judiciary roles and lauded the Campus Law Centre for its efforts in providing accessible legal education and its significant contributions to the judicial system. He reminded the students that lawyers are officers of the court, emphasizing that their role extends beyond representing clients to upholding justice.
