The Delhi High Court, on Monday, granted expelled BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar interim bail until February 4th for undergoing an eye surgery. Justices Yashwant Varma and Harish Vaidyanathan Shankar of the Delhi High Court temporarily suspended his sentence to facilitate the medical procedure at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
The court stipulated that Sengar, convicted in the Unnao rape case, must surrender to the jail authorities by February 5th. The decision came after considering the medical urgency as presented by Sengar’s counsel, who noted that the surgery was delayed from a previously scheduled date due to uncontrollable circumstances.
“We are of the opinion that the sentence warrants to be suspended for the purpose of the applicant’s medical procedure which is fixed for February 4, 2025, subject to conditions identical to those set forth in the December 20, 2024 order. The applicant shall surrender on February 5 before the jail superintendent,” the bench detailed in their order.
The interim bail has been a recurring allowance for Sengar, who was previously granted a similar suspension for the same surgery. However, the plea for this extension faced opposition from the survivor’s lawyer, who argued against the indefinite granting of interim bail.
