Jharkhand HC Requests Detailed Report on ‘Maiya Samman Yojna’ from State Government

The Jharkhand High Court, presided over by Justice Ananda Sen, has called for a comprehensive update from the state government regarding the ‘Maiya Samman Yojna’. Chief Secretary Alka Tiwari has been instructed to submit an affidavit detailing the execution and financial disbursements related to the scheme, with a deadline set for the next hearing on February 6.

The directive arose during the hearing of a petition by Ratan Devi, who alleges that the state has failed to pay the dues owed to her from her late husband’s employment at the district library in Chatra. Her husband’s unpaid entitlements contrast starkly with the state’s disbursement of funds under various poll promises, including the ‘Maiya Yojna’, which aims to provide financial support to women, particularly mothers.

Ratan Devi’s legal representative highlighted the discrepancy in fund allocation by the state, pointing out that while the petitioner struggles to receive what she is due, substantial amounts are being distributed as cash incentives under state schemes aligned with electoral promises.
