Sanjay Singh Misses Court Date, Hindering Charge Framing in MCC Violation Case

In Sultanpur, the framing of charges against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was deferred on Thursday as he did not appear before the court. The case, which also involves 12 others, pertains to alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and the Epidemic Act during a public gathering in April 2021.

Special Public Prosecutor Vaibhav Pandey explained that the charges stem from an unauthorized meeting held to support an AAP district panchayat member candidate in Hasanpur. The event, conducted without official permissions, reportedly breached the Epidemic Act amid stringent public health guidelines.

The complaint was initially lodged by Praveen Kumar Singh, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bandhua Kala, on April 13, 2021. It accused Sanjay Singh and his group of assembling over 50 individuals during the pandemic restrictions, thus flouting safety norms.
