The Central Government has officially announced the appointment of Justice Vibhu Bakhru as the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, following the elevation of Chief Justice Manmohan to the Supreme Court earlier this week.
Justice Bakhru, born in Nagpur in 1966, brings a substantial legal pedigree to the position. He completed his schooling at Delhi Public School on Mathura Road in New Delhi. He pursued higher education at Delhi University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in 1987. He then went on to qualify as a Chartered Accountant in 1989.
His legal journey began soon after, as he obtained his LL.B degree in 1990 and enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi that same year. Over the years, Justice Bakhru established a comprehensive legal practice across various judicial forums including the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, Company Law Board, and several other tribunals.
He was recognized for his legal acumen and designated as a Senior Advocate in July 2011. His judicial career further advanced when he was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court on April 17, 2013. He was made a permanent judge on March 18, 2015.
