Delay in Sambhal Jama Masjid Survey Report Submission; Court Sets January 8 for Next Hearing

In Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, a crucial survey report related to the Jama Masjid was not submitted to the Chandausi Civil Court on Friday. Advocate Commissioner Ramesh Singh Raghav stated that due to violence during the survey on November 24, the report could not be finalized in time. The court has now scheduled the next hearing for January 8.

Attorney for Jama Masjid, Shakeel Ahmed, expressed dissatisfaction, noting that all relevant documents associated with the case have been requested from the court. He emphasized that no further surveys would be conducted in the mosque. The court is expected to announce a new deadline for the report submission shortly.

As Friday marked the sixth day since the outbreak of violence in Sambhal, security measures were heightened city-wide, particularly during the Jumu’ah prayers, to prevent any external disruptions. Commissioner Aanjaneya Kumar Singh urged residents to pray within their local mosques and assured that security forces were monitoring the situation closely.

In response to the ongoing investigation, the state government has established a three-member judicial commission led by retired Allahabad High Court Judge Devendra Kumar Arora. The commission is tasked with completing the investigation within two months and submitting a report to the government.

Meanwhile, Maulana Mahmood Madani, president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, declared the individuals killed in the violence as martyrs and announced financial compensation of five lakh rupees each to their families. Additionally, the mosque committee has filed a petition in the Supreme Court to cancel the survey order, with a hearing by the Chief Justice’s bench scheduled for today.
