In a significant legal reversal, the Supreme Court has cancelled the bail previously granted to three men accused in the murder of former village sarpanch, Dinesh Kumar Yadav, in Neemrana, Rajasthan. The decision overruled a Rajasthan High Court ruling from July 8 that had released the accused—Abhimanyu alias Pintu, Jaiveer, and Satya alias Chinnya—on bail.
The bench, led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar, heard arguments from advocate Ronak Karanpuria, representing the victim’s brother, before deciding to set aside the bail. The justices directed the accused to surrender immediately and ordered the trial court to expedite proceedings, noting that the accused could reapply for bail if unforeseen delays in the trial occurred that were not caused by their actions.
The case dates back to the morning of May 31, 2023, when Dinesh Kumar Yadav was fatally shot while ploughing a field near his village. According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by his brother, Roopesh Kumar, the murder was the culmination of a long-standing political rivalry and disputes over illegal land encroachments.
Roopesh Kumar, who witnessed the attack, identified the assailants and implicated several individuals in a premeditated conspiracy to kill his brother. Following the incident, police investigations uncovered a well-orchestrated plan to eliminate Yadav, involving multiple conspirators and failed attempts.
The police discovered that the accused had employed professional shooters, Sachin and Yashpal, providing them with a stolen motorcycle for their escape and paying them Rs 23,000. Despite immediate medical intervention, Yadav succumbed to his injuries at Kailash Hospital in Behror.
