Supreme Court Upholds Anticipatory Bail for Bhavani Revanna in Kidnapping Case

The Supreme Court on Friday refused to cancel the anticipatory bail granted to Bhavani Revanna amidst allegations of her involvement in a kidnapping case linked to her son, Prajwal Revanna, a suspended leader from the Janata Dal (Secular). The decision came after the Karnataka government’s plea challenging the Karnataka High Court’s earlier ruling which had allowed pre-arrest bail for Bhavani Revanna.

Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan of the Supreme Court emphasized the need to keep the judicial proceedings free from political influence and dismissed the state’s appeal. The case involves serious allegations against Bhavani Revanna, who is accused of kidnapping a woman who was allegedly sexually assaulted by her son, Prajwal Revanna. The purported motive behind the kidnapping was to prevent the victim from lodging a complaint.

The spotlight has also been on Prajwal Revanna, who is accused of sexually assaulting multiple women and recording these assaults. His actions came to light in April when over 2,900 videos were discovered on pen drives scattered in public areas throughout Karnataka. Following a brief flee to Germany, Prajwal returned to India and was arrested on May 31.

The ongoing legal battles extend to Prajwal’s father, HD Revanna, whose bail status is also under scrutiny, with a plea for its cancellation currently pending in the Karnataka High Court alongside Prajwal Revanna’s own bail plea.
