The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to investigate and address complaints regarding noise pollution emanating from the NEXTRA commercial complex in Mayur Vihar Phase 1, East Delhi. The directive follows a plea from a local resident distressed by the constant whistling of security guards at the complex.
Justice Prakash Shrivastava, NGT Chairperson, presided over the bench which included Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member A Senthil Vel. They emphasized the necessity of addressing the resident’s grievances in accordance with legal standards.
The applicant, residing in a nearby apartment, reported that the continuous whistling by the guards has severely disrupted daily life, qualifying as noise pollution under environmental laws. The complaint had been previously lodged with the DPCC, prompting further scrutiny by the NGT.
In their decision, the NGT outlined that the DPCC must consider the applicant’s grievances seriously and take any necessary action following due process. This decision underscores the tribunal’s commitment to enforcing environmental norms and regulations, especially concerning noise pollution in urban settings.
