Allahabad High Court Halts Release of Accused in Unnao Rape Case Despite Bail

The Allahabad High Court has issued a significant ruling in the infamous Unnao rape case, putting a hold on the release of the accused, Ramchandra Yadav, despite the grant of bail earlier. This decision came after a detailed review of a new forensic report confirming the accused’s paternity of the fetus carried by the rape survivor.

Justice Rajiv Singh of the Allahabad High Court’s single bench responded to the complexities of the case, which involved a minor victim allegedly impregnated by the accused. The court’s decision is based on the findings presented in the forensic report and further submissions by Uttar Pradesh’s Director-General of Police (DGP), Prashant Kumar.

The court had initially granted bail to Yadav on June 20, after which the state’s DGP submitted a detailed progress report on the case. The report, which included the forensic science laboratory (FSL) results, played a crucial role in the court’s latest decision to halt Yadav’s release, highlighting the severity of the charges against him.

The high court’s intervention reflects its cautious approach in dealing with sensitive cases involving crimes against minors. The bench ordered that the decision to stay the release will be reassessed in the next hearing scheduled for August 20, ensuring that all judicial processes are thoroughly observed.
