Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Delhi High Court on Monday, contesting his recent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the subsequent remand order in connection with the ongoing excise policy case.
This legal move follows a Delhi court’s decision on Saturday to place the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener under judicial custody until July 12. The CBI had produced Kejriwal in court after completing a three-day custodial interrogation. The investigative agency argued for a 14-day jail term, asserting that his continued detention was necessary “in the interest of the investigation and justice.”
Special Judge Sunena Sharma, who presided over the proceedings, approved the CBI’s plea, mandating that Kejriwal be presented in court again on July 12.
Kejriwal’s legal troubles began on March 21, when he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in a money laundering case related to the now-abandoned excise policy. Although a trial court initially granted him bail, the decision was subsequently stayed by the Delhi High Court.
