Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest has been challenged in the Supreme Court, prompting Chief Justice D.Y. Chandrachud’s bench to advise Kejriwal’s lawyer, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, to schedule the case before a special bench. The case will now be heard by a three-judge bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, which is also presiding over a liquor scam case involving another accused, K. Kavitha. In the meantime, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is scheduled to present Kejriwal in court at 2:30 PM today. The ED has also filed a caveat in the Supreme Court, requesting that their side be heard before any decision is made on Kejriwal’s petition.
During the proceedings, the ED may seek 10 days’ custody of Kejriwal, citing allegations from several individuals linking him to the liquor scam. The confrontation and detailed inquiry into the case are expected, with the ED likely to present technical evidence in court to justify the request for Kejriwal’s custody.
