Centre Notifies Appointment of 21 Judges in Seven High Courts- Know Details

The Central Government on Friday appointed 21 judges for seven High Courts of the country, in which 15 additional judges have been appointed as permanent judges and 6 new appointments have been made as Additional Judges.

The Union Minister of State with Independent Charge of the Law & Justice Ministry, Arjun Ram Meghwal, took to Twitter to share this significant development.

Among the new 6 judges, Advocate Ranjan Sharma, Advocate Bipin Chandra Negi, and Judicial Officer Rakesh Kainthala have been appointed as additional judges in the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

In the same way for Telangana High Court, Advocate LN Alishetty, Advocate AK Jukanthi, and Judicial Officer Mrs. Sujana Kalasikam have been appointed as Additional Judges.

The judges who have been granted permanent positions include Justices Basant Balaji, CK Jayachandran, Sophy Thomas, and PV Gopala Pillai Ajithkumar from the Kerala High Court.

From the Gauhati High Court, Justices Kakheto Sema, Devashis Baruah, Malasri Nandi, Marli Vankung, and Arun Dev Choudhury have been appointed as permanent judges.

Justice Deepak Kumar Tiwari from the Chhattisgarh High Court, Justices Anil Laxman Pansare and SC More from the Bombay High Court, and Justices Krishna Rao, Bibhas Ranjan De, and Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee from the Calcutta High Court have also been granted permanent positions.

This decision was based on the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium, which proposed the appointment of these additional judges as permanent in their respective High Courts on July 25.

The appointment of these judges will contribute to reducing the significant workload on the existing judges and ensuring timely delivery of justice.

Currently, there are 629 permanent judges and 152 additional judges serving across 25 High Courts in the country. This number falls short of the sanctioned strength of 840 permanent judges and 274 permanent and additional judges combined.

These appointments reflects the government’s commitment to addressing this issue and reinforcing the legal system.
