Important cases heard in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, March 15:
* HC sought response of the Consortium of National Law Universities, Bar Council of India and the Centre on a plea seeking to conduct the Common Law Admission Test- 2024 (CLAT) not only in English but also in other regional languages.
* HC asked the Centre to file a status report on petitions seeking a ban on “illegal” sale of drugs online.
* A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the HC seeking direction to the Centre and the Election Commission to take steps for compulsory voting in parliament and assembly elections to enhance voter turnout.
* HC directed slum dwellers on the Yamuna floodplains here to vacate their jhuggis within three days failing which they will have to pay Rs 50,000 each to the DUSIB and the DDA shall proceed with the demolition.
* The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) told the HC that it will place on record the details of a committee under the Civil Aviation Requirements for unruly passengers to hear appeal of Shankar Mishra, accused of urinating on a woman on board an Air India flight from New York to Delhi.
* The primary obligation to provide education to children lies with the state and participation of private unaided schools has been permitted out of necessity, since the state is unable to perform its function adequately, the HC said.
