YouTuber Moves to HC Challenging FIR Filed For Tweet on the Death of CDS Bipin Rawat A YouTuber Maridhas has petitioned the Madras High Court's Madurai Bench for the quashing of an FIR lodged against him by the Madurai police. M. Maridhas stated in his apPetition that on December 9, he tweeted a message about the death of Chief of the Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat. He stated that he asked the government to take action against "those who smile on the death of the Chief of Defence Staff." Instead, the administration had taken action against him, according to Mr. Maridhas. As a social activist, he claimed to have spoken out against separatism and terrorism. Mr. Maridhas stated that the Madurai police had filed a FIR against him under several sections of the IPC. He said there was no evidence to use the clauses against him. The petition has been assigned to Justice G.R. Swaminathan and will be heard on December 13. Mr. Maridhas was apprehended by the Madurai police for questioning about a social media post in which he questioned whether Tamil Nadu was becoming another Kashmir. Mr. Maridhas was formally arrested on Saturday by the Chennai police Central Crime Branch in connection with a pending forgery case. Mr. Maridhas had been detained by the Madurai police and was being held in Theni prison. The CCB apprehended him at the prison in connection with the case, which was opened last year on the basis of a complaint filed by Vinay Sarawagi, associate executive editor of the News18 group.
