Woman Advocate Dies After Jumping from Lucknow Civil Court Building During Facebook Live

In a tragic incident that has left the legal community and residents of Lucknow in shock, a 32-year-old woman advocate, Maya Rawat, ended her life by jumping from the third floor of the Civil Court building in the Wazirganj area on Thursday evening. The incident occurred shortly after she went live on Facebook, where she expressed her anguish and made her final wishes known.

Maya Rawat, a resident of Chaudhary Purva in Jankipuram, was married to Satish, a resident of Itaunja. The couple had been embroiled in a legal battle for the past ten years. On Thursday, Maya had come to the court to attend a hearing related to their ongoing case. However, around 5 p.m., she took the drastic step of jumping from the bridge connecting two court buildings.

During the Facebook Live, Maya voiced her despair, stating that no one had listened to her while she was alive, but she hoped her wishes would be fulfilled after her death. She specifically requested that her body not be sent to her parental home, but instead, she wished for her last rites to be performed at her in-laws’ residence. Maya also mentioned that her younger brother, Indrapal, should be given โ‚น1.5 lakh from her in-laws to cover the expenses he incurred for her medical treatment. She concluded her live stream with a final goodbye to everyone.

Witnesses at the court premises reported that several lawyers tried to prevent Maya from jumping, raising alarms and rushing to her aid. Unfortunately, their efforts were in vain as she had already taken the fatal leap. The police immediately rushed her to Balrampur Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
