In a concerning incident on Sunday evening, Uttarakhand High Court Chief Justice G. Narendar was involved in a road accident near the Ramganga bridge on National Highway (NH) in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, while returning from Delhi to Nainital.
According to official sources, the mishap occurred when the escort vehicle at the front of the Chief Justice’s convoy abruptly braked on the rain-soaked highway. The slippery road conditions, caused by continuous rainfall, led to the Chief Justice’s Toyota Camry skidding out of control and colliding with the escort vehicle. Matters worsened when the security vehicle following the convoy also slipped and rammed into the Chief Justice’s car from behind.
Despite the two-way impact, Chief Justice Narendar was fortunate to escape without any major injuries, experiencing only a mild jolt. However, several members of the security team sustained minor injuries. One police officer, who was more seriously hurt, was taken to a private hospital in Moradabad for treatment.

The Chief Justice’s vehicle suffered significant damage in the accident, prompting the Nainital High Court to dispatch a replacement vehicle to ensure his safe continuation to Nainital. The damaged car was left behind in Moradabad for necessary repairs.
In the aftermath of the incident, senior officials from Moradabad’s district administration and police promptly reached the site to assess the situation and coordinate response measures.
The Chief Justice successfully reached Nainital late at night, bringing relief to the legal fraternity and administration. The incident underscores the challenges of highway travel during monsoon conditions and has prompted calls for reviewing convoy safety protocols in adverse weather.
