A significant case of caste certificate forgery concluded on Tuesday, with a local court handing down a seven-year imprisonment sentence to a student for fraudulently securing an MBBS seat. The court also imposed an Rs 11,000 fine on Amit Kumar Bind, a resident of Ibrahim Pur village in Gopiganj, for his actions aimed at gaining undue admission advantages at Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj.
Bind’s enrollment journey began at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya using an OBC certificate. However, in a turn of deceitful events on March 23, 2010, he acquired a falsified Scheduled Caste (SC) certificate, identifying himself as a member of the Khatik caste, which falls under the SC category. This certificate was used to gain admission to the MBBS program under the SC quota in 2018, disclosed Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyan.
The forgery surfaced when Vijay Bahadur alias Vishram, a fellow Gopiganj resident, lodged a complaint on June 7, 2018, prompting an official inquiry. Following the investigation, Bind’s admission was revoked, and he was expelled from the medical college.*
The case, presided over by Chief Judicial Magistrate Sabiha Khatoon, reached its conclusion after detailed hearings and arguments from both prosecution and defense. Special Public Prosecutor Ramesh Chandra informed that the court found Bind unequivocally guilty, resulting in his substantial prison sentence and fine.
